100 random encounters across 4 biomes
Expect encounters with a balanced mix of combat challenges and fun roleplay encounters across all environments. You can expect stories such as:
- Forest encounters: herding cats, cooking competition, settle debates, vacuuming mages and much more
- Swamp encounters: tearoom tastings, spirit catching, petting zoo chaos, wheelbarrow racing and much more
- Mountain encounters: abbey drink-off, boulder run, goblin dating 101, spring break party prep and much more
- Ocean encounters: wreck diving, competitive eating, ship navigation, reef preservation and much more.
Written by Game Master Worlds and contributing writers from all over the world, each encounter delivers unique scenarios and creative storytelling.
Zero-prep, just narrate
Unlike most encounter books that require studying in advance, Encounters at a Glance works differently. Each encounter is designed to be run with zero preparation. Just open and start narrating using clearly marked headlines and progress sections. Everything you need is referenced directly in the 3-page encounter spread. No flipping back and forth between pages.
Discovery zones
Use discovery zones to choose a random encounter: roll to determine which encounter your party stumbles upon and scratch to reveal it, keeping even you, the GM, surprised by what happens next.
Journey events
Did your players wake up refreshed, grumbling about an itchy bedroll or chasing after a squirrel that ran off with their socks? Bring your world to life with journey events: bite-sized roleplay moments that turn every day on the road into something memorable. Each morning, the journey event pages let players roll a d20 to see how their day begins. Then the party leader takes charge, rolling to guide the party through the afternoon, evening, and night’s unfolding events. Simply have your players roll the dice and let fate guide the way!
D&D 5e and system agnostic
Designed for D&D but easily adaptable to Pathfinder and other TTRPGs, thanks to the book's unique use of icons for stats. The icons' color-coding instantly indicates how difficult certain checks are, making it easy to adjust difficulty for any party level or system.
Add The Explorer's Journal for Pathfinder conversions, additional combat difficulty scaling options, and 500+ journey Events
-
Scratch & Fold: Prefer a little more control and less chaos? Scratch the discovery zones, then fold open the 3-page spread to run it. The standard foldable Edition.
And yes, the books are 100% reusable. While the element of surprise may be gone, the encounters can be played again in other campaigns.
